Fresh Morning Routine

This past week I made the impromptu decision to begin waking up at 8am. To older individuals, this is old news, the leas of your worries, but to me, a 21 year old college student, 8am is not a time my alarm clock knows well.

However, because I am neither a morning bird or a night owl, I decided I needed to pick my poison and prepare for the real, adult world. Night shifts will likely never be a reality for myself, a future mental health counselor, but mornings most definitely will.

Now, I have never been someone who enjoys sleeping until noon, even on the weekends or during the summer. I feel anxious and unproductive. On days I could sleep in, my alarm would be set to wake me up at 9:30. To individuals my age and younger, that probably sounds like hell, to older individuals, that probably sounds like a wasted day.

So, this week I transitioned to waking up at 8am; and needless to say, it wasn't too bad. I made sure to, instead of waking up and immediately checking social media (like we all do) I got up and made my bed. It's the little accomplishments that get your day rolling! Then I would open my blinds to let some natural happiness shine in.

On Monday, I took my pup for a short walk, however, the rest of the week I resorted to some Youtube Yoga (Caroline Williams Yoga). I really enjoyed following along to Caroline each morning. She had a variety of videos, ranging from yoga for beginners to yoga for experts, and short yoga routines to more extensive yoga routines. My favorite aspect to her yoga though was her incorporation of Scripture and prayer. It gave me the opportunity to be physically, mentally, and spiritually tuned in. It allowed me to mentally set my mind up in a peaceful and positive manner while also including God's word and presence.

I heated up a not-so-healthy breakfast of delicious Eggo French Toast sticks, brewed some coffee, and readied myself for another day. I’m actually pretty excited to start again this week and see how the Lord moves in my new routine!

“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!”
