Let's Talk About Drugs

Diabetics have to give themselves insulin because their pancreas doesn't make it for them.

So I am going to beg the question: what's the difference between someone taking an antidepressant because their brain doesn't make enough serotonin and/or dopamine?

Some people can survive and function normally by going to counseling, meditating, or doing other forms of self-care; Other's cannot and need to help their brain create and regulate the neurotransmitters in their brain. Medication should never be the first approach to dealing with mental illness, as not everyone will react positively and not everyone will require it. Attending counseling when beginning and adjusting to a new antidepressant is crucial. Attending counseling in general is extremely beneficial and helpful, as one will learn effective and positive ways to help themselves, as well as giving them someone to talk to. Normalize counseling!

Taking medication does not make you weaker than someone not taking medication; Taking medication also doesn't make your mental illness worse or "less bearable" than someone not taking medication. Everyone feels, deals, and heals in their own unique ways... Yes, I intended for that to rhyme in hopes of creating a catchy mantra.
